Gravity and astrophysics at UMiss

Emanuele and Hector are attending the DPG Physics School on “General Relativity @ 99”. This is one of many events organized on the occasion of the 100 years of Einstein’s General Relativity theory. The LIGO Laboratory and the LIGO Scientific Collaboration announce the public release of two years of data taken by the three LIGO gravitational-wave detectors during LIGO’s fifth science run, 2005-2007 (S5). Andrea Maselli (Sapienza University of Rome, Italy) will visit the group in September. Welcome, Andrea!

Emanuele wrote a review of the new book “Gravity: Newtonian, Post-Newtonian, Relativistic”, by Eric Poisson and Clifford M. Will, that we used here at Ole Miss in the Spring 2014 for the advanced General Relativity class (Phys 629/630). The review can be found in Classical and Quantum Gravity. In short: the book is awesome!

Davide Gerosa’s research (supervised by Emanuele through a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship at Caltech in 2013) is featured in the Winter 2014 issue of CURJ, the Caltech Undergraduate Research Journal. From the editors:
